Book Review – The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich

The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich

Author: Tim Ferriss

Sonya’s Review:  I had heard of the 4 Hour Work Week for quite a while before I decided to read it.  It is this huge big book full of amazing information that we could all implement into our businesses 🙂

I only ever succeeded at implementing one of the ideas and it changed this so much for me.  He spoke about the fact that when we try to make appintments with poeple we go back wards and forwards trying to come up with a date and time that suites us both, and this takes up way too much time.  He recommended implementing an online diary that people could book in.  So if someone mentioned they wanted to have a meeting with you, you just send them a link to yur diary and they book themselves in.  This literally changed my life 🙂

There are so many other great ideas and I will eventually implement them all 🙂

And yes, definitely a MUST read type of book 🙂

Publisher’s Summary

Wisdom without passion is a Ferrari with no gas in the tank. Passion without wisdom is a tricked-out 57 Chevy with no steering wheel. Baby Boomers have relied on wisdom to pave the way to success. Education, knowledge, investing strategies, 401(k)s, real estate leverage, and carefully contrived career paths were expected to lead to success in the golden years. Seeing the overall failure of that formulaic approach to life, younger generations today have relied on passion as the guiding principle for their version of success.

Yet both are necessary. Regardless of age, those using only wisdom to achieve their goals are likely to end up disappointed and unfulfilled, feeling as though they have been chasing empty rainbows. Those trusting passion alone may lose the power of wisdom and end up underachieving, falling short of their potential, and unable to attain their worthy goals. In Wisdom Meets Passion, best-selling author Dan Miller and his entrepreneurial son Jared Angaza show how to blend the two, equipping readers to accomplish their greatest goals, experience the thrill of fulfilling relationships, create meaningful work, and complete their purpose and calling here on earth no matter which age group they represent.

Book Review – Will It Fly?: How to Test Your Next Business Idea So You Don’t Waste Your Time and Money

Will It Fly?: How to Test Your Next Business Idea So You Don’t Waste Your Time and Money

Author: Pat Flynn

Sonya’s Review:  I have been listening to Pat Flynn’s two podcasts for a really long time and love everything he does 🙂 So when he released this book it was only natural that I purchased the hard copy and the audio copy 🙂

Anything to do with starting a business interests me, anything that Pat writes about interests me, so those two together were always going to work 🙂

His concept is quite a good one and the free course that he has that goes along with the book is awesome, I have personally done it 🙂

Have a read and let me know your thoughts 😉

Most definitely a MUST read type of book 🙂

It answers questions like:

  • Is it a good idea for you?

In other words, will it fly?

Chock-full of practical suggestions you can apply to your business idea today, Will It Fly? combines action-based exercises, small-scale “litmus tests”, and real-world case studies with anecdotes from the author’s personal experience of making money online, hosting successful podcasts, testing niche sites, and launching several online businesses.

Book Review – The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It

The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It

Author: Michael E. Gerber

Sonya’s Review:  Ok, so when I say that You Were Born Rich was my first book that I started with, I totally forgot about this one.  I was given The E-Myth by my first business coach back in 2004.  I read it, I instantly fell in love with it. 🙂

I am a systems person, I love going from business to business helping them implement systems.

I have read this book time and time again and it is so right in everything.  I have seen businesses go from start up to adolescent and then go backwards as they don’t know how to grow.  Implementing systems is the best way to overcome this. 🙂

Have a read, then do a systems analysis of your business (or get me to do one for you 🙂 )

Definitely a MUST read type of book 🙂

Publisher’s Summary

In this edition of the totally revised underground best seller, The E-Myth, Michael Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business, from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed, and shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business, whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working on your business and working in your business. After you have listened to The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

Book Review – The Barefoot Investor: The Only Money Guide You’ll Ever Need

The Barefoot Investor: The Only Money Guide You’ll Ever Need

Author: Scott Pape

Sonya’s Review: A friend gave me this book to read in a hard copy and at the time I couldn’t get it on audible so I started reading it on the plane when I was travelling once.  Most books make be fall asleep, which is why I listen to them instead 🙂 BUT this book kept me rivieted for the whole 3.5 hours that I was on the plane.

I then brought it for all my family for Christmas, joined a facebook group of other people reading it and generally told everyone about it. 🙂  I have had friend buy the book for the family as well 🙂

Like most of my books, this is a guide to changing some part of your life, and this is about your finances.  Read it, follow it and have success 🙂

As  you can guess, definitely a MUST read type of book 🙂

Publisher’s Summary

Fully revised and updated for the 2019-2020 financial year

This is the only money guide you’ll ever need.

That’s a bold claim, given there are already thousands of finance books on the shelves.

So what makes this one different?

Well, you won’t be overwhelmed with a bunch of “tips” or a strict budget (that you won’t follow).

You’ll get a step-by-step formula: open this account, then do this; call this person, and say this; invest money here and not there. All with a glass of wine in your hand.

This book will show you how to create an entire financial plan that is so simple you can sketch it on the back of a serviette…and you’ll be able to manage your money in 10 minutes a week.

You’ll also get the skinny on:

  • Saving up a six-figure house deposit in 20 months
  • Doubling your income using the Trapeze Strategy
  • Saving $78,173 on your mortgage and wiping out seven years of payments
  • Finding a financial advisor who won’t rip you off
  • Handing your kids (or grandkids) $140,000 checks on their 21st birthdays
  • Why you don’t need $1 million to retire…with the Donald Bradman Retirement Strategy

Sound too good to be true? It’s not.

This book is full of stories from everyday Aussies – single people, young families, empty nesters, retirees – who have applied the simple steps in this book and achieved amazing, life-changing results.
